at a bar in lower manhattan and they’re playing catholic choral music. on the wall there’s a giant mural of gregorian monks on a raft
the only other people in here are talking quietly about japanese verb conjugation. there are many statues of gargoyles and gnomes
probably goes without saying this is now my favorite bar in the world
new yorkers are so fucking spoiled it is unbelievable
While mlm contents are getting loads of promotion and in turn public attention and even bigger platforms, wlw contents are getting screwed (with $0 promotion) and axed left and right. While mlm audiences can sit around choosing what they want to watch, wlw audiences literally are moving mountains to try keeping even one ounce of their contents alive.
Of course everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community face discrimination and are in the minority when it comes to on screen representations. But it’s frustrating to see how contents featuring queer non-men are disproportionately getting screwed over and over again in recent times.
Please go and look at GLAAD’s “Where we are on TV” report for 2022-2023, because what you’re experiencing doesn’t reflect the state of LGBT+ TV at all.

[Image ID: A graph showing that in 2022-2023, there were 261 LGBT+ men characters (44%), 310 women (52%), and 25 nonbinary characters (4%)]

[Image ID: A graph showing that in 2022-2023, there were 210 gay characters (35%), 180 lesbian (30), 149 bisexual (25%), 25 queer (4%), 14 straight with another LGBT+ identity such as straight trans people (2%), and 12 with undetermined orientation (2%)]
[Image ID: A graph showing that in 2022-2023, series cancellation got rid of 61 LGBT+ men characters (44% of cancelled characters), 73 women (52%), and 6 nonbinary (4%)]
[Image ID: A graph showing that in 2022-2023, series cancellation got rid of 52 gay men characters (37% of cancelled characters), 44 lesbian (31%), 39 bisexual (28%), 2 queer (2%), 1 straight (1%), and 2 undetermined (2%)]
I think it’s fair to say that there’s a slight slant of shows with female characters getting cancelled a bit more, but it’s nowhere near “mlm audiences can sit around choosing what they want to watch, wlw audiences literally are moving mountains to try keeping even one ounce of their contents alive”.
It’s fine to be upset about your shows being cancelled. That sucks and it’s always a blow against good representation! But it’s also important to remind ourselves of what’s happening in the big picture, rather than just in the parts of fandom that we usually interact with.
i like how we invented our own use for the tag system. “these are for finding similar posts” nah these are messages i wrote with the invisible ink pen i got from the book fair that i leave for my friends
Dogs are so funny like they understand hype. Other animals get freaked out but dogs get hyped.....
Have you ever seen such audacity?
Friendly reminder that the “personal carbon footprint” was invented by oil companies to shift the blame of climate change to you, an average citizen, and away from the ones actually responsible. Remember that the ocean was literally on fire.
you know when I was a kid I played a game on poptropica called Energy Hogs where these pig npcs would go around turning on the electronics in this big house and your job was to run around turning all of them off to keep the energy meter low and you’d get a higher score the lower it was and it was coded to have a message about preventing global warming but I honestly think that game was only teaching little kid me how to save on my electric bill
